NYC Bed Bugs Legislation – Is it Strong Enough? »

Got Bed Bugs?

If you are currently experiencing bed bugs, the first thing to realize is that you should not panic.  It’s really easy for me to say because I don’t have bed bugs though.  Although bed bugs are certainly a tricky nuisance pest that cannot be ignored, you can fight back and win the war against bed bugs.

It is important to know that you will not likely be able to get rid of bed bugs on your own.  Household chemicals will not kill bed bugs.   Some bugs bombs have even been known to make the problem worse. There are many remedies that you can find online, but now is not the time to work on your own.  It is wise to contact a bed bug specialist to get rid of the pests as soon as you realize that you have them.  Early treatment will help you save your home from total infestation.

Here are a few things you immediately do:

Call a bed bug specialist.

Clean your house and get rid of the clutter.  Bed bugs are hiding pests.  They will hide anywhere.  Clutter provides exceptional bed bug hiding places.  Put personal belongings in plastic bags and tie them shut.

Vacuum everything you can.  Pay special attention to the crevices and corners of each room.  Don’t forget to vacuum your mattress, paying special attention to the edges, seams, tags and the area between the box spring and mattress.

Wash everything that can be washed in the hottest water possible.  Dry everything on the hottest dryer setting.

Scrub infested surfaces with a stiff brush to dislodge eggs.  Don’t forget to dismantle your beds and remove drawers from dressers to make sure you have eliminated those locations as possible bed bugs hiding places.

Lastly, don’t forget to purchase a bed bug proof mattress cover.  They will provide protection to you if any bed bugs or eggs have survived the extermination process.

Once your house is professionally treated, you will be able to sleep tight without the fear of bed bug bites.
