Spring Break

packtite3Aaahhh, spring break.  It’s a time for college students to return home, take a break from the rigors of school, eat some good home cooked meals, have some fun, and bring home the dirty laundry that has not been washed since Christmas.  Along with the laundry, textbooks, laptops and cell phones, many college students are bringing home a special surprise for their family.  A surprise so unexpected that it is greeted with screams of delight…well, okay…fear.  Much to their parent’s dismay, many college students are bringing bed bugs to their homes this spring.

So what can you do to keep these blood sucking creatures of the night from invading your lovely abode?  For the record, stripping your son or daughter at the front door and dousing them with pesticide is not a good idea.

If you have a student returning home from college it would be a good idea to pick up the PackTite Portable Bed Bug Killing Heat Chamber.  This portable de-bugging station will kill bed bugs and their eggs by heating items placed inside up to 145 degrees.  PackTite works great for luggage, clothing, backpacks, linens, pillows, shoes and fabrics that are “dry clean only.”  PackTite takes only minutes to set up and is quite easy to use.  So when your son or daughter comes home from college this spring; consider dropping their belongings into the PackTite to make certain that any potential bed bugs are killed before any infestation can occur at your home.

Try the PackTite before the bed bugs bite you!

Do NYC Bed Bugs Prefer England?

Some bored NYC bed bugs decided to hitch a ride on some visitors from Britain and enjoy life in England. A London lawyer woke up in her Manhattan hotel room and discovered she had itchy bite marks all over her body. When she got back home in the United Kingdom here house became infested with bed bugs and she had two treatments done to here residence.

Residents in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens and Manhattan complain about tourists bringing bed bugs to NYC but they also leave NYC and are probably scattered all over the world. Fortunately they don’t have “made in NYC” stamped on them. Bed bugs are lurking all over NYC which gives tourists plenty of chances to acquire a gang of bed bugs. Last year there were over 10,000 reported bed bugs infestations but most people think there were substantially more bed bugs cases.

One exterminator found a mattress in a Brooklyn apartment which he claims had about three to five hundred bed bugs living on it. How many other mattresses in NYC have a massive bed bug community living on them? If hotel owners claim they limit the bed bug population to 138 per mattress, tourists should not pleased!

Call a NJ, NYC bed bugs pest control professional to get rid of them.

NYC Bed Bugs Deserve to be Sued

Whether you live in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens or Manhattan having a bed bugs infestation in your NYC residence is expensive! Unfortunately, it’s not practical to slap a lawsuit on bed bugs. Even the notable law firm of Dewey, Cheatam and Howe couldn’t make that happen. Yes, it’s allowable to scream when you discover you have bed bugs or you could just say “oh my.” Having to deal with the itchy marks on your skin can be difficult but the bed bugs also hit your bank account.

In one case, a woman’s bed bugs extermination costs were placed on the Internet. Her landlord paid out $600 for pest control treatments and the woman had an additional staggering $7,310 bed bugs induced cost. She actually tossed out more than 200 books which she claims had a value of over three thousand dollars. She also purchased a new couch, coffee table, chairs, a rug and other items. She tossed out items such as gold coins, a bag full of stunning emeralds and a regal string of pearls (well maybe not). Even though she didn’t pay for the extermination she’s still out over $7,000 in associated expenses. She probably would rather of had her house invaded by grizzly bears.

Call a NJ, NYC bed bugs pest control expert to get rid of your bed bugs.

Rat Facts…The Numbers Are Astounding!

rat1It always amazes me to hear how rats are revered in some countries around the world.  In America, not so much!

Here are some interesting facts about rats….

In 2007, it was estimated that 8,274,527 people resided in New York City.  It is also estimated that there is one rat for every person living in New York City.  A rat will eat from one to three ounces of food each day.  If these  numbers are true, rats consume over 250 tons of food each day in New York City.   Rats living in the City will drink 62,500 gallons of water each day.

Besides having plenty of food and water available to them, rats are quite proficient at producing offspring.   Rats have a life expectancy from six months to one year.  A female rate will usually mate over 20 times in a day with multiple rat partners.  A female rat will have two or three litters of pups each year.  Each litter averages between six and twelve pups.  A female rat will be ready to breed by the time it is three months old.  A male and female rat can produce up to 15,000 descendants in a one year life span.

Without the help of professional rat exterminators, the population of rats in New York City would bypass the amount of residents in just one year.  If you have a rat problem in your home or business, it’s time to call out Stern Environmental Group to take care of your problem!

NYC Bed Bugs Should be on the Discovery Channel

Perhaps NYC residents in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens and Manhattan should send a massive amount of emails about NYC bed bugs to the producers of the Verminators program on the Discovery Channel. No, not to be annoying but to get some national attention for the NYC bed bugs issue. One of the hosts of the Verminators program watched an online story about a family being attacked by bed bugs in Bakersfield, California and they decided to go to Bakersfield and video tape an episode for their show. A picture of the family with no furniture in the house grabbed the attention of the Verminators show. I’m sure NYC residents in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens and Manhattan can top that with their bed bug stories.

At least the bed bugs issue will be getting attention on the Discovery Channel and the human suffering associated with bed bugs will have human faces and not just statistics or written words. The show includes watching a beagle finding bed bugs. I realize it’s on the Discovery Channel but I hope they don’t have people dressed up as giant bed bugs with antlers that are holding terrified people hostage just to increase the ratings!

If you have bed bugs call a NJ, NYC bed bugs pest control expert to get rid of them.
