Yes, bed bugs may be biting people living in NJ, NYC, the Bronx, Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens but so far the bed bugs don’t seem to be spreading diseases. An associate professor of entomology at Mississippi University in Jackson stated public health significance of bed bugs is minimal. The associate professor and a colleague examined 53 studies on bed bugs that were published during the past 50 years. However, it does seem that a few of the bed bug victims had anaphylactic shock which is a serious allergic reaction, however it’s very rare.

The World Health Organization has stated that airborne common bed bug allergens that are released during bed bugs infestations can produce bronchial asthma. Well, the good news is there have been no reports of bed bug induced scurvy.

With all the bed bugs in the world it’s too bad nobody has come up with something positive to do with them. I have not heard of bed bug fertilizer, or using their carcasses to cure diseases or use them for entertainment purposes. They may not be spreading diseases but it would be nice if they could spread some joy. Perhaps just a modicum of happiness.
