NYC Official Speaking at National Bed Bug Summit
Residents of Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens and Manhattan might be pleased to know that during the EPA’s National Bed Bug Summit, Sharon Heath of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene will be speaking. Her speech will occur during the session titled “How Public Health Agencies View Bed Bug Infestations.” The Bed Bug Summit will be occurring on April 14th. It’s good to know that someone from NYC is taking a leadership role in the dreaded bed bugs infestation that has spread all over the nation.
The agenda will include bed bugs basics, their impact on public and private housing, control methods for bed bugs, bed bug challenges and the governments response to bed bugs. This must be an important meeting since the owner of Stern Environmental, Douglas Stern will be attending the summit.
Bed bugs have indeed hit the big time when the EPA hosts a National Bed Bug Summit. I have not heard of a national cockroach summit being planned. I think the name “bed bugs” will be mentioned 138 times at the summit.
If you have odious bed bugs or just bed bugs ask a NJ, NYC bed bugs pest control expert to eliminate them.

there is no use in having an exterminator. take it from someone who had them come and spray THREE times and then moved and low and they came along for the ride. none of the insecticides on the market today are doing the job. if they were we wouldn’t have such an epidemic. i live in NYC and we are having a MAJOR problem. I am just wondering how widespread this must become before the government will finally do something. are there any scientists getting funded to come up with an alternate insecticide that is equally effective as DDT but will not be found harmful to the public. i’m at my wits end and i know i’m not alone.
I disagree with your comment that there is no use in having an exterminator. First, we in the industry view ourselves as professionals. Therefore, we take offense by the term exterminators to describe the work that we perform. We are Pest Management Professionals. Second, you are misinformed by saying that none of the insecticides on the market today are dong the job. The insecticide Phanton, chemical name Chlorfenapyr, has no know resistance to Bed Bugs. Which means it kills them? You failed to mention non chemical treatments like space heating, steam, and cold treatments like Cryonite. Another non chemical method would be the use of encasements on box springs and mattresses. All of these non chemical treatments have been shown to kill Bed Bugs. Due to the fact that they are not chemicals there can be no resistance to these treatments.
The reason that you are not getting the proper results, from your exterminator, is because they are not incorporating any other means besides chemicals that we know Bed Bugs are resistance to. There are many Pest Management Professionals who use some of the mentioned non chemical means and therefore are getting the desired results.
