Easy to Follow Tips to Avoid Bringing Bed Bugs Home from Hotels

Hotel guests in New Jersey, New York City and other locations known to have bed bugs need to use some preventive measures to try and stop the odious bed bugs from going home with them. Those little rusty red colored blood sucking insects would be happy to enter your suitcase and go home with you. They don’t make good pets.

The best hotels can have bed bugs. There are some simple things hotel guests can do to minimize the risk of bringing home bed bugs from hotels.

Inspect the luggage rack and make sure it doesn’t have any pests or blood stains or fecal matter left by bed bugs.

Thoroughly check the headboard, especially any cracks.

Place luggage on the luggage racks and don’t place luggage on the floor or the bed.

Remove the sheets and look for blood stains and fecal matter on the mattress, especially the seems and also the box spring.

Look in the cracks in the walls, furniture and picture frames.

Bed bug monitors are an excellent addition to a bed bug prevention system while staying at hotels and at home.

The Bed Bug Locator – New Innovative Product

Stern Environment Group has always taken a proactive approach when it comes to fighting the war against bed bugs. We often find ourselves offering products to our customers that no other company has.  We are not afraid to think outside of the box when it comes to traditional bed bug treatments, and continue to look to find new and innovative products and services for our customers.  We are always happy to discover new products and services that we can add to our vast arsenal of services that we bring to our valued customers.

There is a new bed bug product that is in the development stage that is called The Bed Bug Locator.  It is being developed by Termite Detection Systems (TDS) which is based in Oak Island, North Carolina.  TDS has been very successful in creating a state of the art device that locates hidden termites.  Although still in the product development stage, The Bed Bug Locator has been proven to be able to detect the presence of bed bug infestations.  According to company reports, the device is so sensitive, that it can detect as few as one bed bug that is well hidden within a room.  Once this product is available for distribution, it will serve as an amazing tool for pest control professionals in the United States.

According to TDS, they have created a specific multiple sensor array that will accurately locate hidden bed bug infestations.  TDS reports that The Bed Bug Locator combines a vacuum pump that constantly draws in an air sample through the unit’s 12 inch telescoping probe with several specific powerful sensors that instantly pick up on gases produced from the digestion of blood.  Each sensor is reported to register individually with this new system, so the extremely powerful sensors make the unit accurate in their detection of bed bugs.

Stay tuned for more information from Stern Environmental Group regarding this potential new product.  If proper investment capital in obtained to move this product to the next step, it could mean great things for the pest control industry and people suffering from bed bug infestations around the United States!  TDS is currently seeking investors and expects to have a working unit on the market in about six months.  We look forward to sharing more information about this exciting new product as it becomes available.

Bed bug infestations in multi-family housing structures is a significant problem in New Jersey, New York City and in many parts of the country. The National Center for Healthy Housing (NCHH) has produced the “What’s Working for Bed Bug Control in Multi-Family Housing: Reconciling best practices with research and the realities of implementation” report. Yes, it’s a long title but check it out, you may learn something about destroying the odious bed bugs. You can download the bed bug report.

The report was designed for housing professionals, health professionals and pest management professionals that deal with bed bug infestations in multi-family housing. It includes methods to control the annoying bed bugs and it evaluates the pros and cons. It also provides recommendations. The writer of the report interviewed 35 experts. Max the Bed Bug Detection Dog: Reduces the Cost of Bed Bug Treatments

Max the bed bug sniffing Beagle lives in Wisconsin. Fortunately, bed bug detection dogs also work in New Jersey and New York City. Properly trained bed bug detection dogs are major assets for pest control companies. Max now performs bed bug inspections that used to be done with human eyesight and flashlights.

Max’s owner stated that the Beagle has an efficiency rate over 90% when it comes to finding bed bugs. Since he can smell the difference between live bed bugs and dead bed bugs he also inspects rooms after treatments to make sure there are no live bed bugs still lurking in a treated area.

Max’s owner mentioned that the Beagle saves time and money because he can find the exact location of bed bug infestations that need to be treated. Since bed bug detection dogs can determine the exact location of bed bug infestations in hotels, hospitals and other settings, fewer rooms need to be shut down for treatments which saves a lot of money. Max is a knight in shining fur.

Hotels versus Guests: Who is Responsible for Bed Bug Attacks?

Denine Erlemeier claims she and her family were attacked by bed bugs while staying at a Disney World hotel in Florida. She claims they were covered with bed bug bites. The email rejoinder from Disney regarding her bed bug complaint stated that the bites did not occur due to any condition at the Disney hotel. These cases are hard to prove but when people say they awoke in a hotel room with red bite marks perhaps they are are correct about the attack occurring at the hotel room.

A Disney spokesperson stated that the resort has a bed bug expert staff member that investigated the complaint and found no evidence of bed bugs. Hopefully, it was a thorough inspection. What are his qualifications? Bed bug detection dogs are far superior to humans in detecting bed bugs. The spokesperson didn’t mention a bed bug sniffling Beagle or any other bed bug detection dog. People visiting hotels in Jew Jersey, New York City and other cities and states across the nation should consider purchasing a bed bug monitor and take it with them to hotels.
