Bed Bug Sniffing Dogs – A Popular Choice

The use of bed bug sniffing dogs is becoming more and more popular in the war against bed bugs.   Through their extensive and unique training they are able to sniff out live bed bugs, bed bug eggs, and even dead bed bugs in even the hardest to reach spots in homes and businesses.  Bed bug sniffing dogs can inspect a single room in a matter of minutes as opposed to their human counterparts, which can often take hours.

Because New Jersey and New York City have been so overrun with bed bugs within the past five years, it has become in vogue to hire a bed bug sniffing dog service to check out any new residences that people are considering renting or buying.  Eradicating bed bugs can be a frustrating and costly experience.  Using bed bug sniffing dogs to check for potential bed bug infestations will allow you the peace-of-mind that any new residence will be bed bug free before you move in.

If you are looking for bed bug sniffing dog services, contact Stern Environmental Group today.  We provide discreet and professional bed bug services and products to our customers in Secaucus, New Jersey, the Greater New York City Metro and Connecticut Regions.

New Jersey Bed Bug Legislation: Is it Economically Fair?

New Jersey bed bug legislation was released by the Assembly Housing and Local Government Committee. The legislation is designed to provide additional tools for tenants and landlords to deal with bed bug infestations. The State Senate has not dealt with the bill.

A major aspect of the bill places responsibility on building owners to maintain dwellings that are free of bed bugs and they have to pay for bed bug pest control treatments. Hmmm! not an easy task. If a bed bug infestation occurs treatments can be expensive. Landlords will be fined if they don’t pay for treatments.

If this bed bug legislation becomes law it could be very costly for landlords. Typically, bed bugs don’t arrive at apartment buildings because they were invited by landlords. They arrive accidentally and in some cases because tenants were not responsible and brought in used mattresses or furniture infested with bed bugs. However, you also have tenets that have bed bugs because they crawled in from a neighbor’s apartment unit. Morally, who should pay for all these bed bug infestations? Not an easy question to answer.

Should Propoxur Use Be Allowed For Bed Bug Eradication? Part II Of II

stern-bed bugContinuing from Thursday…

The Environmental Protection Agency previously stated that there are no severe health outcomes as a result of the exposure to the use of the pesticide Propoxur.  What do you think about this issue?  Feel free to leave us a comment.

The question remains as to what the Environmental Protection Agency will do in regards to this matter.  We know that this insecticide will work in the fight against bed bugs and that it will be very cost effective to consumers.  If the EPA already deemed it to be a safe chemical to use, what would the trouble be in releasing it nationwide?  People who don’t believe that we are having a bed bug epidemic should speak to just one family who has encountered these blood suckers.  They are very difficult to get rid of and will rattle even the calmest of nerves!  Is Propoxur the magic bullet in the war against bed bugs?  That remains to be seen.

Some bed bug experts have other treatment options in their arsenal that have proven effective.  Bed bug monitors, mattresses encasements, bed bug sniffing dogs, Cryonite, heat killing chamber, and other products are some of the things that Stern Environmental Group uses in their treatment program.

If you have fallen victim to the dreaded bed bug outbreak, contact a pest control specialist today.  Stern Environmental Group provides fast expert bed bug services to Secaucus, New Jersey, the Greater New York City Metro and Connecticut Regions.

Bed Bugs Invading the Entertainment Industry

It’s been reported that Rihanna and Jay-Z’s record label Def Jam closed its New York office due to a bed bugs infestation. According to the New York Post, three floors received fumigation treatments but the problem returned in the offices of  celebrity talent agency ICM downstairs.

Bed bug infestations are not bragged about buy building owners in New Jersey or New York City or anywhere else in the country. There are probably a large number of buildings in the nation that have bed bug infestations but the property owners are keeping it quiet which is understandable. However, they need to get bed bug treatments so workers and visitors of the building don’t unknowingly take the odious insects home with them.

It’s not easy being a building owner when bed bugs move in. They have to deal with the cost of pest control treatments, potential lawsuits, the building’s image being harmed with the public, and frightened employees and visitors.

Building owners and others may want to purchase some bed bug monitors in order to discover a bed bug infestation as soon as possible.

New Jersey Bed Bug Legislation and Mattresses and Furniture

The state of New Jersey is considering bed bug legislation which has been passed by the state assembly. The New Jersey Apartment Association has reviewed the proposed legislation and is supportive of it. However, the organization recommends that language be added to the bill that requires mattresses and furniture be fumigated or heat treated before it can be resold. They also recommend the treatment be certified and the documentation be provided to the buyer at the time of purchase. Current guidelines allow the use of products and materials that don’t destroy bed bugs at all life stages.

Well, these proposed additions to the bill are good, but some people may suggest that people simply don’t purchase used mattresses and furniture. If money wasn’t an issue perhaps they should add language to the legislation that the used mattresses and furniture are required to be evaluated by a bed bug detection dog after fumigation or heat treatments. Bed bug sniffing dogs are superior to humans when it comes to detecting bed bugs and retrieving a far flung stick; this evaluation also pertains to New York City.
