Is Bed Bug Legislation Going to Get Rid of the Odious Insects?
Bed bugs are annoying all over the nation. Politicians are becoming more involved in the attempt to get rid of the horrible insects. A couple of Alabama legislators have introduced the Alabama Multi Dwelling Bed Bug Control Act. The legislation is modeled after pending bills in New Jersey and Arizona. It places various responsibilities on landlords and tenants regarding the prevention and managing of bed bug infestations in multi-family housing.
The legislation requires the State Health Department to create and publish a pamphlet that provides information about bed bug identification, prevention and reporting infestations. The pamphlet would be delivered to the tenants of multi-dwelling units in residential buildings.
Well, residents of multi-family buildings in Alabama, New Jersey, New York City and elsewhere would perhaps be delighted if legislation was passed that called for routine inspections by bed bug detection dogs, required apartment building owners to provide bed bug monitoring devices for each unit, a requirement that apartment owners have to immediately get bed bug treatments and perhaps free cheese puffs.
