Woman Refused Medical Treatment Because Of Bed Bugs!

Bed bug infestations can cause an uproar no doubt.  Across the United States, landlords and tenants have fought as to who is responsible for eradicating the bloodsuckers when an infestation occurs in a rental property.  School districts in the United States have various responses when bed bugs arrive on the scene.  Some close their doors while treatment commences, other remain open, to the panic of worried parents.

There is an unspoken stigma attached when a person has a bed bug infestation.  Many people are left feeling isolated and alone as they battle the blood thirsty pests.  A recent study of bed bug infestation victims has shown that people who suffer through infestations are prone to heightened anxiety and depression issues.

The fear of bringing bed bugs into a home or business environment can make people do strange and unusual things.

An Aurora, Colorado woman claims that she was denied medical treatment because she has bed bugs!  The woman claims that she was due to receive spinal treatment when a nurse asked her about the bug bites on her arms.  The patient advised the nurse that the bites were in fact…bed bug bites.  According to news reports, the patient claims that she was escorted out of the medical facility by her physician who commented “it could be in your hair, it could be in your clothes and we can’t have you bring that into our operating room,” in regards to her bed bug infestation problem.

It’s very difficult dealing with the emotional, physical, and financial issues involved when you have a bed bug infestation.  Being denied medical treatment because of bed bugs is over the top!  Many hospitals and medical facilities throughout the United States recognize the widespread problem that bed bugs have become and have developed specific protocol for patients that they suspect have bed bugs on their person, or patients who disclose that they are suffering from an infestation in their home.  These protocols not only help the patient, they also help curtail the spreading of any infestation within the medical facility.

Denying a patient medical services because of bed bugs is a missed opportunity to educate the patient about bed bugs, provide medical services for the bed bug bite wounds, and provide advice about obtaining pest control services.

BBD-100 Handheld Bed Bug Detector Part I Of II

Stern Environmental Group would like to announce the arrival of a new and innovative bed bug detection device that is sure to be a beneficial asset to pest control professionals and consumers alike.  The BBD-100 is the first patented personal handheld bed bug detector of its kind that will detect bed bugs that are hiding in most any type of crack or crevice.  The BBD-100 Personal Handheld Bed Bug Detector is small in stature, about the size of a calculator, but packs a powerful punch in the war against bed bugs!

Bed bugs are attracted to the C02 that humans exhale.  These pesky bloodsuckers typically attack their victims during their hours of slumber, and after enjoying their feast, slither away to their chosen hiding places to digest their blood meal.  Hidden bed bugs then generate gas emissions.  The BBD-100 Personal Handheld Bed Bug Detector draws in air samples in the room that it is used in and will sound an alarm, and display a red light, when there is the presence of those gas emissions that are emitted by bed bugs.  Early detection of bed bugs can be achieved by using the BBD-100 because this amazing detection unit is so sensitive that it will be able to detect just one hidden bed bug that is within six inches of the unit.

Not requiring electricity, the BBD-100 uses two AA batteries, and can conveniently be taken along and used anywhere.  Homeless shelters, hospitals, libraries, schools, college dorms, camps, theaters, retail stores, airlines, and doctor’s offices, will all experience the peace-of-mind knowing that their establishment is free of bed bugs when they use the BBD-100 Personal Handheld Bed Bug Detector.

Please check back on Friday for the conclusion.

Bed Bug Heat Treatment Blamed For Fiery Blaze

Batches of bed bugs learned the hard way not to mess around with one Cincinnati exterminator…sort of!  All kidding aside…any New Jersey pest control expert will tell you that fighting a bed bug infestation is difficult business no matter what kill method is chosen.  Great care must always be taken by pest control experts to safeguard the health and wellbeing of the homeowners, the pets that live in the home, and the owner’s belongings.

Last weekend, a Cincinnati homeowner, who was suffering from a bed bug infested home, hired an Ohio licensed pest control professional to provide bed bug eradication services.  Reports are that the exterminator was hired to provide heat treatment services to kill the bloodsuckers for the homeowner.

Pest control professionals that use heat treatment have the option of using propane tanks or electricity to energize the heating devices used.  Each heating device helps raise the temperature of the home/business to at least 135 degrees.  Prior to the heat treatment procedure, customers must remove all flammable items from their home to avoid combustion and fire.

For the Cincinnati customer, the entire heat treatment process was to take 6 ½ hours to complete.  Reports are that the fiery inferno broke out when the carpet in the living room ignited, six hours into the heat treatment process, with only 30 minutes left until the completion of the job.  The fire was seen by a neighbor who spotted the black smoke pouring out of the home.  By the time emergency personnel arrived at the scene, the fiery blaze consumed the entire home, making it a complete loss.

The exterminator believes that the fire must have been caused by an “equipment malfunction” of some sort because he has used the same method of treatment without issue many times before.  Other exterminators in Ohio have said that using propane tanks inside the home is the likely culprit of the fire.  Some neighbors report hearing sounds of an explosion.  The Fire Marshall has placed blame on the exterminator, and the matter is still under review.

It’s important for pest control experts to use great care when providing bed bug eradication services.  Stern Environmental Group utilizes a variety of safe and effective bed bug treatment methods that have proven results.  If you are suffering with a NY or NJ bed bug infestation, contact Stern Environmental Group for fast and safe bed bug removal services.

Bed Bug Psychosis Part II Of II

Continuing from Wednesday…

A study has been conducted by the American Psychiatric Association about how bed bug infestations affect various people.  The results of the study were recently revealed in Honolulu, Hawaii.  Researchers believe that bed bugs may be “responsible for a variety of anxiety, and psychotic spectrum illnesses causing significant impairment, including suicidality and psychiatric hospitalization.”

The researchers say that patients who are being treated for an existing mental illness often experience greater problems once they endure a bed bug infestation.  They report “serious mental health consequences, including new-onset psychosis and destabilizing.”

The study found that healthy people also suffer psychologically because of bed bugs as well.  Otherwise healthy people, who became victims of bed bug infestations, had an increase in occurrences of depression, anxiety, fears, mood swings, and overblown phobias.

There were only ten cases reviewed in this particular study, but the doctors who conducted the study are urging their colleagues to be aware of the risks associated with the current bed bug outbreak within the United States.

At the end of the day, you may not be able to escape a NYC bed bug infestation or one in any other part of the United States.  New York pest control professionals agree that knowledge is power when it comes to avoiding a bed bug infestation.  Everyone should educate themselves on how to avoid bed bugs, no matter where they live.  Stern Environmental Group is happy to share our extensive knowledge about bloodsucking bed bugs.  Check out our website to find the most up-to-date information on bed bug products, services offered, photographs, testimonials, news releases, and useful tips and stories in our Blog.
