NJ Pest Control Experts Warn College Students About Bed Bugs Part 2 Of 2

Continuing from Monday…

To date, there have already been a number of colleges and universities throughout the United States that have reported having trouble with bed bug infestations.  Maysville Community and Technical College has found them in their tutoring center.  Wake Forest University had bed bug infestations thriving in 2% of their dorm rooms and the dorm rooms at Old Dominican University have the buggers lurking around too.  This is likely only the beginning of the bed bug nightmare for many college students!

New Jersey pest control experts report that many colleges throughout the United States are being proactive by having pest control experts at the ready in case an outbreak occurs.  If the bloodsuckers are discovered, colleges are using high tech devices such as heat treatment, Cryonite, pesticides, and bed bug sniffing dogs to clear any area of the infestation to have the least amount of disruption and to keep students healthy and safe.

The recent study from the National Pest Management Association called “2011 Bugs Without Borders Survey” revealed that 73% of pest control professionals believe that bed bugs are the most difficult pest to eradicate.  Upon arriving at any campus dorm room, New Jersey pest control experts recommend that you carefully examine the room for bed bugs prior to bringing in any personal belongings.  Bed bugs can easily be lurking in the tufts and seams of the bed so you so definitely buy a Protect-A-Bed Mattress Encasement. The encasement will not only fully encase the entire mattress, trapping any potential bed bugs or their eggs inside (forever), they will also keep bed bugs from being able to make a nest on the mattress if any exist in the room or hitchhike their way inside at a later date.

Always remember, avoiding bed bugs is easier than dealing with an infestation!

NJ Pest Control Experts Warn College Students About Bed Bugs Part 1 Of 2

Incoming college students have many things to prepare for as they plan for their upcoming school year.  New Jersey pest control experts say that in addition to worrying about moving themselves into on-site student housing facilities and off-site campus housing units, all students should be mindful of the risk of encountering bed bug infestations at their college.

Their ability to hitchhike with great ease, their propensity to hide, and their slight stature, makes the college environment quite suitable for nasty bed bugs.  College students come from all walks of life and bed bugs know no socio economic difference.
Some people may have a bed bug infestation in their home, but never know it because they do not suffer the allergic reaction to the bites of the bed bugs.  Some students may be bed bug free when they left on their college journey, but unwittingly may have picked up the critters at a hotel while traveling to their college destination.  It is not unheard of for people to even pick up the bloodsuckers while traveling on airplanes, trains, buses, taxis or subways.

The bad news for students is, that once you have bed bugs, their bites are usually painful and they will spread throughout a residential facility like wildfire.  Once a student has bed bugs, the bloodsucking hitchhikers can easily be transferred to other university locations such as libraries, classrooms, student centers, or even taken home to their own family when they visit.  Bed bugs are an extremely difficult pest to eradicate.

A new study from the National Pest Management “Bugs Without Borders” revealed that pest management professionals think that college dorms are the number one place to find bed bugs.  The study showed that 35% of all pest management professionals treated dorms in the United States last year.  This year, the numbers have risen to 54%!

Please check back on Wednesday for the conclusion.

Bed Bug Bites…The Itch That Won’t Stop…Until You Hire A NJ Pest Control Expert

Complaints of bed bug infestations continue to rise; despite extensive eradication efforts report New Jersey pest control experts. Because of their nighttime antics and sneaky behavior, it’s easy for bed bug infestations to go un-noticed for an extended period of time. It is estimated by NJ pest control experts that most people do not realize that there could be some type of bug causing bites in their home until the bed bug population has reached an army of over 200 or more.

It is estimated that about 50% of people that are bitten by bed bugs suffer from the allergic reaction from their bite wounds. Bed bugs prefer to bite humans, but will turn to cats, dogs, birds, or rodents if they are hungry and a human blood meal is not easily available. Unlike ticks, bed bugs do not latch on and stick with their victim. Instead, bed bugs creep up on their sleeping victim, usually in the wee hours of the morning. Bed bugs have two beaks for feeding. With one, they stab their victim and inject an anesthetic so they can numb the feeding area. With the second beak, they leisurely suck blood. It will take about 5 to 10 minutes for a bed bug to become fully engorged. Once bed bugs are done feeding, they will scurry away to digest their blood meal.

The allergic reaction to bed bug bites can leave red itchy bite marks that resemble flea or mosquito bites. New Jersey pest control experts warn that bed bug bite symptoms can appear within a few hours after being bit or up to 10 days after being bit by the little vampires. Bites can appear in lines of three, often referred to as “breakfast, lunch and dinner” or can be sporadic throughout your body, neck and face. Bed bugs are lazy creatures and will often choose to dine on skin that was exposed during their nighttime hunt, rather than covered areas, but because of their small and sneaky behavior, no skin source is off limits to these creepy bugs!

It’s important to contact a licensed NJ pest control professional immediately if you think you have a NJ bed bug infestation in your home.

How to Prevent Carpenter Bees from Damaging Your Outdoor Wood

Carpenter bees build their nests in burrows in almost any outside unpainted or unfinished wood. Sometimes you can’t see the holes; all you see is the ejection matter from their boring. They typically cause cosmetic damage instead of structural damage to wood. However, many generations of carpenter bees can cause considerable wood damage by enlarging existing galleries in wood. They sometimes create new tunnels near old tunnels. A complex system of tunnels can cause extensive damage to wood.

To prevent carpenter bee damage, keep all exposed wood services well painted with a polyurethane or oil-based paint. Paint everything, even the areas you can’t see including under banisters, railings and window seals. Apply two coats of a good exterior primer and follow up with at least one coat of finish.

Continually perform inspections of painted surfaces because the paint coating deteriorates due to weathering, leaving exposed wood for carpenter bees to attack. Also, seal existing gallery entrance holes to discourage carpenter bees who are looking for potential nesting locations. If you have a problem with carpenter bees let a NJ pest control company get rid of them for you.

If you choose to cover wooden components with aluminum do it correctly. You can’t leave any spaces where carpenter bees can find wood. They can squeeze through very small spaces.

Consider using pressure treated wood in outdoor projects, including playhouses and decks. Pressure treated wood does not require paint but you can paint pressure treated wood if you desire to. Pressure treated trim is available for windows and doors.

Carpenter bees cause extensive damage to redwood swing sets. Use pressure treated wood for swing sets. You can paint it if you want it to look like redwood.

With some effort, you can prevent carpenter bees from harming your outdoor wood.

A Man Looses His Job due to Odious Bed Bugs

Yes, NYC bed bugs are a big problem but the critters are a problem all over the nation. Gino, who lives in Ohio, got a job after a long period of unemployment. He also got engaged and they’re having a baby. Life was looking better. Here comes the bad news; his boss fired him when he learned Gino’s apartment has the odious bed bugs. Since Gino was working at a nursing home, his employer was concerned Gino would unknowingly bring bed bugs with him to the care center. It’s seems unfair, Gino, lost his job due to the little critters. However, it’s easy to understand the concern of the nursing home manager.

Those living with bed bugs in NJ and NYC should hire an effective NJ and NYC bed bug control company. The best way to avoid loosing a job like Gino did is to destroy the bed bugs!

So what should Gino and other individuals in his situation do? Should they warn prospective employers they have bed bugs which could travel with them to the work site? Should they keep quite about it, in order to increase the chances of getting a job? It’s not an easy decision to make.

Gino’s fiancé is very sensitive to bed bug bites. Her arms, legs and back are covered with bleeding bed bug bites. Thus, Gino realizes if he unknowingly brings bed bugs to a new workplace his co-workers could soon be in the same situation as his fiancé. However, Gino and other people with bed bug infestations need to work. Staying quiet about their bed bug situation and covering up bed bug bites with long sleeve shirts is the likely path for many of them. It’s a societal issue that’s needs to be dealt with.
