Bedbugs are on the move across the U.S. with multiple cities seeing an increase in the tiny pests that make life miserable with their incessant hunger for human blood. They’re found in homes, restaurants, hotels, buses, trains, schools, churches, luggage, tables, headboards, drapes and bedding. No place is safe.
A study by Rutgers University based on nine essential oil-based products shows that over-the-counter insecticides aren’t enough to eradicate bedbugs.
Each product was tested by directly spraying the adult bugs and eggs in various stages of growth. Of the nine products, only two had high percentages for killing eggs and nymphs. While this seems like an impressive result, researchers point out that since the testing was conducted in a controlled environment, the percentages would be higher than the results of using these products in actual situations.
In an actual situation, chances of directly spraying all the bedbugs is minimal since the spray would most likely not penetrate all of the areas such as cracks, behind walls and baseboards, crevices or creases where bedbugs reside.
The prolific pests require stronger methods to keep them at bay. At Stern Environmental Group, we use the innovative non-chemical method of freezing. Cryonite® is a non-toxic, environmentally-friendly process that kills the bugs and their eggs immediately. Quick, efficient, and no residue make this a method of choice.
If bedbugs are becoming or have already become problematic, contact Stern Environmental Group. The professional technicians have the knowledge, know-how, and expertise to address infestation from top to bottom.
