This new bed bug monitor is portable and looks like a briefcase. The manufacturer tells uis that the unit will sell for about $999 and comes with five CO2 cartridges and five lures. This early warning system for bed bug infestations could be used in residences, hotels, cruise ships, college dorms, and apartments. As the danger of a damaging bed bug infestation grows, industry experts agree that early detection and after-treatment monitoring are two very important parts in the fight against bed bugs.

The Cimex Detection Case (CDC 3000) is a bed bug monitoring and trapping device. This innovative device mimics the presence of a human body and can detect bed bugs in areas up to 100 sq. feet. Bed bugs are attracted to CO2, human-like warmth and scent. This unit emits all of these indicators so that any bed bugs in the area will seek it out instead of you. The special bed bug lure is composed of a synthetic attractant chemistry blend of pheromones and other bed bug attractants.

Looking like a briefcase, the unit is portable and discreet and can easily travel with you to hotels or any other place you visit. Each one time use C02 cartridge lasts about ten hours. Unlike pesticides, this unit is safe to use around children and pets.

According to the Cimex Science website, "Laboratory tests show that the CDC 3000 works. After as little as 1 hour, bed bugs are drawn out of their hiding places. They enter an opening in the case, which traps them in a small, two-inch by two-inch capture slide. The slide is removable, allowing you to count, document, and archive the findings in a safe and secure fashion. Slides are easily replaced to allow multiple tests in rapid succession or to allow the case to be moved from location to location."

When using this unit there are a few easy steps you will want to take to get rid of these pesky bugs:

Place the unit where you desire (usually under a bed or in a closet). Bed bugs will be attracted in about a six foot radius in about two to three hours. Insert the one time use lure cartridge and capture slide. Activate the one time use CO2 cartridge and plug the unit into an outlet. Monitor any activity for three to ten hours. The CO2 container will supply about ten hours of service. Once done, count the bed bugs on the capture slide and keep as a record for future reference. Additional cartridges and lures are sold in packages of 25 units each.

Since the CDC 3000 detects very low levels of bed bugs, it allows you to take prompt treatment action to avoid an infestation.
