Freeze Those “Suckers” In New York City! Part I Of II

Bed bug infestations have become a nightmare in New York City and many other areas of this fine country.  Some people may go their entire life and never encounter a bed bug.  Others live in anguish as the nighttime hours approach and feeding frenzy begins.  Can you imagine going to sleep knowing that bugs will be crawling on you and sucking your blood?  YUCK!

There are chemicals available to purchase that usually don’t help the problem.  Just like certain germs that become resistant to antibiotics, bed bugs are becoming resistant to pesticides.   Most people will search the internet to try to find answers to their infestation problem.  Ridding your life of bed bugs will be a difficult task and one that should only be handled by skilled bed bug eradication specialists.

One of the most innovative products that is used in Europe has now reached the United States shores.  Welcome Cryonite!  It has proven to be the most effective treatment of bed bugs ever.  It is non-toxic and promises to kill both the bed bugs and their little yet to be hatched babies.

Please check back next Thursday for the conclusion to this post.

NJ, NYC Bed Bugs and Using Banned Substances

NJ, NYC bed bugs are a big issue and bed bugs are a major problem in other parts of the country, especially urban areas. People are trying all types of remedies.

Jody Gangloff-Kauffman of Cornell University claims that ” An alarming number of individuals are buying professional use or banned pesticides on the Internet and using them at home with no prior experience or training.” She goes on to mention that bed bugs and the bed bug pesticides can cause asthma problems.

Some pesticides are only supposed to be sold to professionals for logical reasons. One is safety. I wonder how much danger people are putting themselves and their families in by using pesticide chemicals without the proper training. Sure, buy an antique doily over the Internet but don’t create a potential disaster in your NJ or NYC residence or apartment building by purchasing banned substances or “professional use only” bed bug products.

Besides some immoral moron in a shack could be mixing low priced toxic chemicals that have nothing to do with bed bugs and selling them as a wonder potion to NJ, NYC residents for bed bugs and the chemicals could be very toxic.

Let a NJ, NYC bed bugs pest control professional eliminate the critters.

Are NJ, NYC Ants Special?

Let’s hope NJ and NYC ants are ordinary insects and not the new species of ants recently found by German biologists in the Amazon rain forest.  According to the scientists the ants date back about 120 million years. They base this estimate on testimony from a really old guy living in the rain forest – well actually on ant DNA samples.

If they can survive the heat and dangers of the rain forest let’s hope they didn’t climb into the suitcase of a researcher that decides to visit NJ or NYC.

The scientists hope the discovery of the new species of ants will provide an insight into the early evolution of ants. If they bring them over to Stern Environmental  the Stern guys will probably provide the scientists some insight into the modern techniques of ant destruction.

If they end up in your NJ or NYC kitchen (probably not) they look like a miniature wasp and are unique in the ant family. You might become envious when I tell you the ants were discovered while the scientists were fortunate enough to have the pleasure of investigating fungus.

If you are invaded by ants of any variety call a NJ, NYC pest control professional.

Do You Know What’s Really On The Menu In NYC?

You would think that with the thousands of restaurants available to dine at in New York City; that enjoying a tasty meal would not have any hazards.  Although a minimal checks and balance system is in place by the Department of Health, failures in sanitation records continue at alarming rates.  Restaurant patrons should be worried that the restaurant they are eating at may have more on the menu than they bargained for.

Senator Jeff Klein has recently produced a report that studied the 100 worst restaurant inspection reports in New York City.  In those reports, terrible creatures that should not be found in restaurants were commonly found.  There were rats, mice, cockroaches and many other insects.

Senator Klein is hoping to put an end to this eatery foolishness.  He is currently sponsoring legislation that would require restaurants to post a letter grade (A – F) that will reflect the status of their restaurants cleanliness.

“Having a letter grade posted for all diners to see will provide a real incentive for restaurants to clean up their act”, said Klein. “I can’t imagine anyone wanting to eat at an establishment with an ‘F’ hanging in the doorway.”

What a fantastic idea.  Knowledge is power.  Don’t we all deserve to dine without the threat of rodents and insects infiltrating our food?

Currently, restaurants are not required to disclose what their inspection results are.  New York City consumers need to be wary of where they dine.  At the moment, your only option of knowing where your favorite restaurant stands is to check out sanitation inspection scores and reports from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Restaurant Inspection Information website.

NJ Bed Bugs – Who Pays for Extermination?

Bed bugs in New Jersey are the responsibility of the landlords, however the law allows the building owners to pass the cost of NJ bed bugs extermination on to the renters. The city council of Jersey City is considering an ordinance that makes the building owners pay all of the NJ bed bugs pest control costs.

Perhaps Nicholas Kikisof the New Jersey Apartment Association has a point when he states ” Most bed bugs come in with the furniture.” He adds “Where it is known a tenant brings in an infestation it is that tenant’s responsibility to pay for that extermination.”

It can quickly get worse when the bed bugs invade other apartment units and dramatically increase the costs of  bed bugs eradication. It seems there is not too much sympathy for apartment building owners in NJ and NYC that have to pay for bed bug exterminations that sometimes are caused by irresponsible renters in NYC and NJ. Not all of the property owners are living the high life and have tons of extra cash to spend.

I am wondering how countries in Europe and other locations deal with the topic of who pays for bed bug exterminations.
