Many squirrels will not be making Santa’s “nice” list this year.  Besides taking up residence in attics throughout the land, now it seems that they have a taste for something new.  Something apparently delicious.  Something not so nutty at all, and probably not so delicious at the end of the day.  It seems that the new LED Christmas lights that are decorating the exteriors of homes are a new tasty treat for squirrels this Christmas.

For some odd reason, squirrels have decided to steal the bulbs right out of the strings of lights.  Apparently they have not discovered that they are not really a good source of nutrition.  Squirrels have been spotted plucking the lights out and burying them in the ground, just like acorns.

With the old type of glass bulbs on Christmas lights, if a squirrel chomped into them, they received a mouth full of glass.  These new bulbs are hard plastic.  They likely help wear a squirrel’s never ending growing teeth down and that is probably why they like them.  Either that or they are just plain dumb.

Some experts suggest throwing nuts in your yard so that the squirrels will eat those and not your lights.   Providing nuts can invite other unwanted guests to your home.  Hello, Mr. Rat!  Maybe getting free nuts is part of the squirrel’s master plan…extortion of the nuttiest kind.
