Complaints by NYC residents about the odious bed bugs has substantially increased which prompted the NYC City Council to have a meeting on the topic. Bed bug complaints to New York City officials by people living in apartments and staying in hotels more than doubled in the past two years to a total of 9,213. City officials and some experts believe the number of people being attacked by bed bugs in NYC is significantly higher but a lot of people don’t file complaints with city officials and bed bugs infestations in NYC public housing are sent to a different agency.
In 2008 there were 22,218 bed bug calls to 311, although some were repeat callers and some were from people just asking for bed bug information. Some calls were from NYC residents demanding their fair share of the city’s bed bug population (perhaps not).
It’s not a great plan but for now four bills have been sponsored which would create a bed bugs task force, establish training guidelines for exterminators, ban the sale of used mattresses as well as regulate the disposal of bed bugs infested mattresses. Want about bed bugs infested ascots?
