The New York Assembly has passed legislation that requires the NYC public schools system to notify parents of any bed bugs infestations at schools. Seems like a good idea but it’s a little surprising that legislation has to be passed on the issue. Common sense would suggest that the schools should send out notification without being required to do so.
It will be interesting to see how extensive bed bugs legislation will go in NYC. If a movie theater has bed bugs will they have to post a sign out front about their infestation? If a clothing store found bed bugs in a wall crevice should they be required to post a sign about their infestation in a store window?
Yes, there is the financial reasons for hiding bed bug infestations but people also hide their residential infestations due to embarrassment and the thought of being isolated from their friends, neighbors and co-workers. There doesn’t seem to be an easy solution regarding who has to announce to the world they have a bed bug infestation. Hopefully common sense and concern for others will prevail.
If you have bed bugs ask a NJ, NYC bed bugs pest control professional to get rid of them.
