Bed bugs were found in two rooms at a Hudson county psychiatric hospital. County officials confirmed that the little vampires have caused the rooms to be evacuated and closed for the past seven weeks. A New Jersey pest control firm provided bed bug treatment to the facility upon the initial discovery of the critters. It is standard policy of the county to quarantine any hospital room that is found to have a bed bug infestation for 30 days. After the first 30 days elapsed, officials returned to the room to find one bed bug in each room. Who knows how many other little bed bug friends were still hiding within the rooms!
Bed bug infestations are very difficult to eradicate. Although it is good news that the hospital has taken the two rooms in question out-of-service because the rooms still exhibited signs of the critters hanging around, it could take pest control quite some time to eradicate the bed bugs fully.
Here are a few things to ponder however…
• Bed bugs can survive over a year without having a blood meal.
• Bed bugs are experts at hiding in tiny cracks and crevices that can sometimes be missed during pest control treatment.
• One single bed bug can lay up to 5 eggs each day.
• Bed bugs are tiny and can travel anywhere with ease. They are known for their hitchhiking ways and will easily travel through the walls to change locations to obtain their next meal from a warm-blooded host.
To eradicate bed bugs fully, at the minimum, any rooms that are adjacent to the affected rooms must receive bed bug treatments as well…top, bottom, and on each side. Because bed bugs are so tenacious and have proven to be pesticide resistant, many hotels, hospitals, apartment owners, businesses, and homeowners are choosing to use Croynite and hire bed bug sniffing dogs when they have a NJ bed bug infestation. Stern Environmental Group provides both of these services and has achieved amazing results in fighting NJ bed bug infestations.
