Bed bugs are showing up more often in the NYC area in commercial buildings. If you’ve had employees complain about bug bites at work, it’s possible that your office has an infestation. However, keep in mind that other types of bugs, including fleas and mosquitos, can also cause bites. You’ll need to do some detective work to find out if bed bugs are the culprit.
Visible Signs of Bed Bugs
Check the furniture in your office for signs of bed bugs. If you don’t see the actual bugs, you might find tiny brown or black spots left behind by these critters. Look closely at bookcases, filing cabinets, desks and chairs for these spots, which are fecal matter from bed bugs.
Catching a Bed Bug
One of the most effective ways to determine whether or not you have an infestation is by trapping a bed bug. You can do this by placing clear packing tape around desk or chair legs with the adhesive side out. The tape will catch any bed bugs that walk across it.
Bed Bug Sniffing Dogs
Some dogs are trained to sniff out bed bugs, making it easier for you to find out if you have an infestation. These dogs can even find locations that bed bugs are hiding in.
