NJ residents who have squirrels around might want to take note of the problems these critters have caused in Chicago. An alderman in the Windy City was recently hospitalized and faces months of recovery after an encounter with a squirrel.
Out-of-Control Squirrels
Alderman Howard Brookins in Chicago spoke out against aggressive squirrels in recent months. Brookins complained about these critters chewing holes in brand new garbage cans on a regular basis. The Chicago alderman ended up being seriously hurt when a squirrel jumped into his bicycle spokes as he was riding in the area. He suffered several injuries, including a broken nose, fractured skull and the loss of a few teeth, while the squirrel didn’t survive the encounter. Although it’s rare to hear about this type of incident involving squirrels, it’s good to keep it in mind, especially if you have a lot of squirrels around.
What to Do About Squirrels
Squirrels can become a problem when they decide to nest in your gutters, roof or attic. These parts of your home can be damaged as they build their nests. Squirrels can also spread rabies and other diseases. It’s important to have an NJ squirrel exterminator handle any infestations you have before they cause trouble.
