It’s normal to be tired after a long trip. You just want to get to your hotel, crawl into the bed and go to sleep so you can rest up for the next day. Unfortunately, a lot of travelers get more than they bargained for when they do this, and the last thing you want is to find out you’ve not only been bitten by bed bugs, but you’re pretty likely to bring them home with you as well. As your NYC bed bug specialist, we have a few tips for you.
Checking for Bed Bugs at Hotels
The most important thing you can do when you get to your hotel room is to check for bed bugs before doing anything else. To do this:
• Put your suitcase on a raised surface or even in the bathroom when you enter your hotel room.
• Check the bed by looking for blood stains on the seams of the mattress, on the blankets, pillow and dust ruffle.
• If you find signs of bed bugs, ask for another room. If you’re still not happy, ask for a refund and find another place to stay.
Do Your Homework
Checking the Bed Bug Registry site and hotel reviews will alert you to the possibility of bed bugs when you’re traveling. Be sure to check them both!
