When rodents are looking at your home with eager eyes for a wintertime retreat, there are a few things you can do to keep them moving on to the next piece of real estate.
Tips To Keep Rodents Away
The winter season can be extremely harsh for any outdoor species, which includes rodents looking to set up a cozy inside nest to ride out winter storms.
Rodents are adept at finding their way in through cracks, crevices, ripped screens, broken fascia, and any other sliver they can wriggle through. Consider these tips to remove the attraction of your home and be rodent-free.
– Remove natural ladders providing access to the roof. Cut back trees, vines, and shrubbery to deter climbing.
– Address anything that creates standing water such as a leaky faucet or water accumulated in containers. Even a birdbath can be a source for thirsty rodents.
– Bird or squirrel feeders provide nutrients rodents look for during the winter because food sources are scarce. When they feed, you can be sure some of the feed will fall to the ground creating a nice buffet for rodents. Removing the feed can help.
– Don’t stack grass and tree limbs as these make a nice hiding place. Instead, bag them up.
