Twitter’s Been Hacked!

Stern Environmental Group would like to take this opportunity to apologize to our faithful customers and readers.  We were recently notified by some of our customers that they had received some very strange email messages which initially looked like they were coming from our company.  Once investigated, we realized that our Stern Twitter account had been hacked by some unscrupulous people on November 4th and November 9th!  Hacking into someone’s online business sources is completely shameful and unethical!

We would like all of our customers and readers to know that Stern never participates in spaming or phishing schemes.  We will never contact you to ask you for any password or credit card information either. How to Find Carpenter Ant Nests

Carpenter ants build their nests in wood, and they are difficult to locate because they do not leave tell tale signs of their presence in a home or building. Although they are not as destructive as termites, they can cause considerable damage if they are allowed to infest wood structures for an extended period of time.

Carpenter ants usually set up their colonies in damp wooden pieces that have previously been damaged by other types of insects. One way to find carpenter nests in a home is to tap the surfaces of wooden structures. Listen for a hollow sound as this will indicate that the wood is damaged. By tapping on the wood, you will also cause the carpenter ants to panic, and they may flee their nests and emerge from the wood.

Carpenter ants are one of the most common types of pests in New York and New Jersey, and they can cause great damage to homes and wood furniture if no measures are taken to control them. Here are some basic facts about carpenter ants.

1) Carpenter ants are ants that belong to the genus Camponotus, and they are given their common name because they set up their colonies in wood.

2) The size of carpenter ants range from a quarter inch to slight more than half an inch.

3) Depending on their species, carpenter ants can be black, dark brown, red, orange, light brown, or yellowish tan.

4) Unlike termites, carpenter ants do not consume wood. When they dig galleries in wood to create colonies, they will collect the wood debris and leave them outside.

Biopesticides Increasing in Popularity

Natural pest killing products are becoming more popular with residents in NJ, NYC and all over the nation. Yes they are lethal, for example a soil-dwelling bacterium can fry the nervous systems of fire-ants. Popular insecticide manufactures are producing these products and they can be found at popular retail stores.

The products are made from materials such as plants, bacteria, animals and minerals. The popularity of these products has been powered by the governments scrutiny of pesticides for households use and the desire of consumers to use safer pesticides.

Yes, residents of NJ, NYC, the Bronx, Queens, Manhattan and perhaps Brooklyn can now kill carpenter ants, mosquitoes, slugs and other unwanted critters with natural products. The EPA has stated that biopesticides are typically “inherently less toxic” when compared to standard pesticides. They also decompose faster and thus less harmful to the environment.
