Roaches and Mice, Oh My! More Restaurants in NYC Have Been Hit With Violations This Year.

The number of pest-related health violations in NYC restaurants has reached an alarming high. Nearly twice as many restaurants were shut down by city health officials due to unsanitary conditions in 2018 as compared to 2017. Eateries in the city were hit with 12,992 rodent and roach-related violations, a rise of 57%. The NJ pest control crew at Stern has the latest on this unappetizing story.

Who’s Coming to Dinner?

A total of 10,280 violations were linked to mice and 2,712 were linked to roaches.

Where are the Worst Violations?

Though all boroughs have seen a spike in pest-related citations, the highest incidence appears to be in Queens. Here, violations jumped 70% to 3,138 in 2018 – up from 1,841 in 2017.

Why the Rise?

Some wonder if the pest control crisis in our busy city is getting worse. Others ponder if the jump in pest-related citations is the result of more diligent inspections rather than an increase in mice and roaches in the area. To date, no cause has been identified.

Hope on the Horizon

Despite the rise in restaurant horror stories, 90% of the eateries in all five boroughs still receive A-ratings from the NYC Health Department, giving diners many safe options to grab a bite in the Big Apple.

Why is Cryonite So Deadly to Bed Bugs and Other Pests?

Why is Cryonite So Deadly to Bed Bugs and Other Pests?

As insecticide-resistant pests become increasingly more common, NJ pest control experts remain on the lookout for new pest control treatment systems. Safe and nontoxic, Cryonite is among the most effective on the market.

How Does Cryonite Work?

Used extensively in Europe and Australia, Cryonite eliminates hard to kill pests such as bed bugs and German cockroaches in all life stages, including eggs, by freezing them to death on contact. Applied with a Cryonite machine, a spray of liquid CO2 (carbon dioxide) creates cold, dry ice, crystalizing pests and stopping them in their tracks.

Say Goodbye to Messy Chemical Sprays

Nontoxic and nonpoisonous, Cryonite leaves behind no wet or sticky residues. At normal temperatures, it simply evaporates. Recycled from industrial processes, it’s a green treatment solution.

Pesticide Resistant Pests Don’t Stand a Chance

Cryonite is an effective treatment for even the most challenging insect infestations, penetrating deep within cracks, crevices, and furnishings where insects hide. Because Cryonite is chemical-free, there’s no risk of pests developing a resistance to pest control measures.

Sensitive Individuals and Workspaces Are Safe from Chemicals

Even for the most sensitive individuals and environments, CO2 presents no risk of contamination or adverse health effects.

Cockroach 101 for NJ Business Owners

Cockroach 101
Cockroach 101

Practically every homeowner has entered their kitchen, flipped on the light and been startled by a creepy cockroach standing in the middle of the floor, or even worse, on the counter. But these highly resilient pests often go about their nightly routine unnoticed in businesses that close in the evening. The following are a few basic cockroach facts every business owner should know.

There are more than 4,000 different species of cockroaches in the world. Seventy of these species are found in the United States. Of these, there are four that cause the most trouble for homeowners and businesses: The German Cockroach, Oriental Cockroach, American Cockroach, and Brown Banded Cockroach.

Since cockroaches are so common, some business owners overlook the need to call NJ pest control. Cockroaches need food, water, and warmth to survive. They will eat practically anything, including dead cockroaches. Although they’re known to favor sweets, cockroaches eat cardboard, human feces, toenails, and, of course, any type of food that humans also consume.

In addition to defecating indiscriminately, cockroaches regurgitate digestive juices as they eat. If they are present in a food prep area, they are certainly contaminating prep surfaces and utensils.

Cockroaches are known to carry more than 30 species of bacteria, including E. coli, Salmonella, and Staphylococcus.

Having pests in your building or office can put employees or tenants at risk of having health issues. It can also force you to shut down in order to have infestations treated by NJ pest control services. Knowing which pests are the most common in NJ buildings and offices and how to prevent them can help you minimize these risks.

Cockroaches

Cockroaches spread germs and trigger reactions in those with asthma. Preventing these pests involves sealing up areas where they can get in and making sure that food sources are removed on a regular basis.

Bed Bugs

Bed bugs don’t spread disease, but they do bite people while feeding. Since these pests can hide in tiny places, it’s important to have buildings and offices thoroughly treated.

Mice and Rats

These rodents spread disease and contaminate food supplies. One of the most effective ways to keep them out is by eliminating food sources. Closing up their access gaps and cracks will also help.

Ants

Ants can spread germs, ruin food, and even be a fire hazard. Getting rid of food sources helps keep these pests away.

Termites

Termites can cause considerable damage to buildings and offices. Infestations should be handled by professionals to ensure these pests are completely removed.
