Incredible? Pest Tech Finds Rifle Loaded Clip and Extra Bullets Inside Rodent Trap in Florida

Crazy Rodent Pest Control Story
Crazy Rodent Pest Control Story

Our NJ pest control experts are used to dealing with a wide range of insects and wildlife. A pair of technicians in Florida recently made an unexpected “catch” when they discovered one of their traps containing live ammunition.

An Unusual Form of “Bait”

Last September the technicians were making the rounds of rodent traps they had set in the San Messina neighborhood of Weston, FL. They were surprised to find a loaded rifle clip and spare bullets inside a trap located in a relatively quiet area.

Traps are rebaited once a month, so the ammo had likely been there for less than four weeks. But since the items were rusty, police believe ammo had been in the trap for at least several days.

Who’s Behind It?

For safety purposes, the traps are locked, but the ammo appeared to have been placed inside via the pest portal. Police took possession of the items and they’re concerned that someone, possibly even a child, was attempting to hide the ammo.

William Black, one of the technicians, expressed concern about their find. He termed it “creepy,” particularly in light of the violent acts that have been in the news over recent years.

Incredible? Canadian SPCA Matches Stray Cats with Farms for Rodent Control

A new rodent control program dubbed as ‘incredible’ seems common sense to NJ Pest control experts and the area’s residents.

Career Kitties

The SPCA of Ontario, Canada recently placed an ad looking for an employer for its latest four-legged job candidates. To manage cat overpopulation in the region, the organization is rehoming stray cats that are feral (wild) and incompatible with the in-house, laptop lifestyle of the typical housecat.

These furry felines are being relocated to warehouses, breweries, and farms where they can serve as rodent control. However, demand for the kitties is low at a time when the SPCA is experiencing an influx of felines: The long, cold winter weather that makes suitable shelter scarce.

Seeking Full-Time, Feline-Friendly Work

Though the program has been around since 2015, it has been expanding annually, and currently at about 50 cats per year. What the stray kitties lack in cuddles, they are said to more than make up for with their rodent maintenance capacities.

As many cat-lovers know, the idea of using cats for mouse monitoring is far from novel. However, the program is doing a wonderful job of meeting the increased need to humanely control cat overpopulation in a region where over twice as many cats are admitted to shelters as dogs.

Restaurant Owners – Indoor Flies More Than a Nuisance

Don't Let Pests Get the Better of You in Your Business. We Can Help!
Don’t Let Pests Get the Better of You in Your Business. We Can Help!

Whether you’re dining at home or enjoying a delicious meal at a local restaurant, you don’t want a bombardment of flies to be on the menu. Even a solo bombardier isn’t a welcome guest. When flies are an issue, NJ restaurant pest control should be the first item being served.

Information About Flies

We see them all the time diving, flying, walking, and buzzing around various types of food sources. Indoors, flies are usually found in moist areas such as drains or even the garbage can where they breed and lay their larvae.

Flies range in size from small house flies to very large blowflies. There are also fruit flies, phorid flies, soldier flies, drain flies, moth flies, fungus gnats, and carrion flies.

If you aren’t certain what of pest you’re seeing, keep in mind each type of fly has its own distinctive body structure and coloring. For example, an adult fly has only two wings, while flies in the larvae stage – also referred to as maggots – are nearly translucent and legless. The lifespan of a house fly depends on the temperature, which can mean living for a week to several months. Avoid fly infestations by removing food sources.

NJ restaurant pest control is another professional service provided by Stern Environmental. Our pest control experts will inspect your property and seize the moment to clip the wings and eliminate the aerial acrobatics of fast-flying flies.

How Stern’s RTM Lowers Pest Monitoring Personnel Costs

Stern's RTM Size
Stern’s RTM Size

Pests are small, elusive, persistent, and capable of reproducing rapidly. Because of their small size, pests can easily navigate areas of buildings that people can’t physically access.

These pests set their own schedule, and for the most part are savvy enough to avoid being seen. By the time you do notice bedbugs, the infestation is probably at an advanced stage. It is not humanly possible to effectively monitor and detect their activity without some round-the-clock technology. That is why you need Stern’s Real Time Monitoring (RTM).

What is Stern’s RTM?

Stern’s RTM for bedbugs is a comprehensive, multi-pronged method of monitoring for bedbugs in hotels and motels, college dormitories, shelters, nursing homes, and other businesses.

The RTM system uses traps with a heated pest containment drawer, a lure compartment and dispenser, and a LED alert trigger light. It includes thermal and accelerometer sensors that detect heat, vibrations, and sounds from bedbugs.

Stern’s system continuously captures images of the heated containment drawer chambers. The proprietary visualization technology of the RTM recognizes if a pest has entered one of the chambers and captures photos or videos of its activity. When a pest is detected, alert messages are sent by email or text message.

Stern’s RTM for bedbugs provides real-time monitoring and significantly lowers personnel costs by allowing managers to detect infestations in the early and more manageable stages. Contact Stern Environmental today for more information.

Rats and Roaches Provide Eradication Challenge for Hospitals

No one, no where, at any time, wants to deal with an infestation of mice, rats, cockroaches, fleas, ants, and bedbugs, but that seems to be a major problem the National Health Service (NHS) is dealing with in the UK.

Over the period of one day, the publicly funded NHS has had to call on professional pest control services an average of 19 times each and every day. That’s 19 times, or nearly 600 times a month when pest eradication is necessary. Unfortunately, problem pests are making an appearance, doing damage, spreading germs, and subjecting patients to bodily harm.

It’s difficult to imagine, in this day and time, rats in a surgery unit, bite marks on patients in mental health wards, cockroaches roaming over, under, and around beds and equipment, and ants crawling over patients and taking up residence in the maternity ward. Hard to believe but a true report by the Daily Mail.

Thankfully, in the US commercial businesses can rely on expert help from our technicians at the Stern Environmental Group. At Stern, we have the knowledge, experience, and means to take care of mice infestations as well as any other creepy, crawly, climbing or flying pests.

If your business is being infiltrated by pests, it’s time to get serious about pest control. Contact us today by phone or email so we can take the necessary steps to make your business pest free.
